Did you have an engagement party? Why or why not

I kind of want to have an engagement party but I'm not sure if I should. Maybe your experiences will help me out.

We bought a house. I didn’t need all the pomp and circumstance. We felt like it was a huge waste of money. We would rather invest in our future not a party. We had a surprise wedding in our backyard a year after we bought our house. Everyone said it was the best wedding they had ever been to. And it cost us $350. I wouldn’t change a thing.

We were too far away from everyone and it just seemed kind of pointless 🤷‍♀️ nothing against them I would just rather put the money and planning towards the actual wedding

Generally in “wedding etiquette”, things like engagement parties and bridal showers are not thrown by the couple, they are offered to be thrown by a friend or a family member. We did have an engagement party because my MIL’s best friend offered and threw it for us. I also ended up with 2 bridal showers for the same reason. My bridesmaids threw me a shower for my girl friends and my MIL’s friends threw one for the older ladies. It was a lot, but it’s also rude to turn an offer like that down 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes and it was amazing, we did it to celebrate our engagement with family and friends and we had about a hundred and thirty ppl with food, open bar and a professionally made 3 tier cake and a photographer. It was really nice and fun so if u can and have the time and money then why not and u can have it anywhere it doesn’t have to be big and over the top u know

we didn't see the point in the expense since we were saving for our wedding everyone who cared for us already knew and congratulated us so why spend money for basically that reason. Its also a preference thing if you want one then do it if not then don't. don't feel obligated to.

My boyfriend and I would like to have a small get together with our friends and family to tell them and celebrate. But it’d be small and more like a dinner with about 25 people (which we have done a few times before for things like Christmas). We don’t want anything big when we do eventually get around getting engaged (we’re long distance right now and want to wait until we’re no longer apart). We’re saving the big party (which will also be small for a wedding) for our wedding.

We felt that was just too many parties between the bridal Shower & bachelor/bachelorette. We did not want to ask for more gifts from everyone by throwing an engagement party.

We did not. We live a good distance from our families and it would mean at least 2 days off work for me and at least one for my husband to go back for a weekend. Plus the cost of getting there. It just wasn't worth it to be honest.
