Should I mention I’m doing IVF?

Only two people know besides my husband.  Do I need to tell people?  I work long hours sometimes will it be obvious?  Am I going to have major mood swings?  I’m super nervous!!!

It will stress me out more explaining and answering questions, so I’m not telling anyone. I’ll wait until er get pregnant after and then consider it.

I’ve only told my family and a couple people at work who I trust. Not even my close friends. I’m not sure why but that feels best to me right now! I guess I don’t want all the questions and to have to keep so many people updated.

I told family and a few friends. The major downside is that if it doesn't work or you miscarry it makes it more difficult because it's not an easy subject to talk about. Its heartbreaking.  I didn't get moody while taking fertility meds for the retrieval. Those meds will make your ovaries feel like two big tennis balls, though. You just need to make sure you can inject your meds the same time every night. And the day of retrieval and transfer, you're not suppose to work. The retrieval is quite painful and will take your body a week or two to become normal.

I will say from an HR standpoint that infertility may qualify you for ADA or FMLA protections. Which just means if you think you will miss regular work time, it might be worth telling or if you think you might need workplace accommodations.

You don't have to tell anyone. Even if you are missing work you can tell them it's for medical reasons and leave it at that, you don't have to tell anyone you don't want to. I don't think it's obvious anyone is doing IVF specifically but it may be obvious that something is going on. Either way, your choice.

If you work long hours you should schedule your evening shot later in the evening from the start. Usually the doctor says any time from 6-9 or something and you have to stick with a consistent time. If I were you I’d make sure to keep it late enough that you’d  never have to take a shot at work. I had to do that once and I felt so weird about it! But yeah, just tell your coworkers it’s a medical issue and leave it at that. The only thing they may notice (though probably not) is abdominal swelling/bloating from all the meds and growing follicles. So wear looser clothes than normal!

My coworkers knew. They’ve been with me through this infertility struggle for years. It’s nice having the extra prayers and support.  They even helped me w the injections on rough days lol (I’m a nurse).  I’m not worried about miscarriage or it not working. Life happens. We lost natural twins at 20 weeks which most ppl announce by then.  There’s also no way I could hide it. The progesterone before my transfer has made me sick, dizzy and moody. Thank god for my Work family putting up with me lol
