When to do daycare?

Im at SAH mom but I feel like our 6 month old will benefit from an hour or so a week at daycare. I feel like seeing the other kids, adults, things they'll do with her that I might not have thought to do is good for her development. My husband doesn't agree he thinks it's unnecessary that we have a couple years until we need daycare and that it's too early. I need some advice because all of my friends' kids are already older and in school or preschool. Advice? Opinions?

Go to a church group or something in the community. Free and a great chance to get to know some other mothers and have a break.

It’s actually better for the child to stay home if possible. They really learn a lot from their mothers. And you want to be the one teaching them in the first year if at all possible. Mom has less kids to deal with and makes her own kids a priority, which makes the environment for your child more relaxed… whereas in daycare, the attention may not be always on your child and it can often be chaotic with the amount of children they watch. What you can do is Google some activities to do with a six month old and do them with her at home. There’s nothing you can’t do with your daughter that a daycare teacher would do. She’ll feel more secure and be more confident being with you as long as possible. Studies have shown that children who stay with their mothers for as long as possible are less aggressive and have lower stress levels. Furthermore, your child won’t need socialization until she’s older. Even then, you can do that by finding mom groups and setting up play dates with their kids. My daughter is four and is going to be going to preschool this year, but she has not spent a day in daycare in her life. She is super smart and very well socialized just from spending time with the other children that are in our lives.

I've been a nanny, and a daycare teacher. 
I'm planning on being a part time nanny when little man is due, or even full time SAHM. 
but I say after 2 if you want the to socialise in daycare. or get them into a movement class, or activities through a church or library.

if its only for a few hours, I'd say find something else. gymboree, swim, library, or play dates. mine LO is one and he loves kids but I'm hoping to daycare until he's 3. Plus I don't wanna deal with a sick baby 24/7.

I personally refused to put my daughter into daycare until she was potty trained and could also talk. We finally put her in daycare when she was 3. I feel comfortable because she comes home and tells me everything she did during the day. It may seem excessive to others but I just have heard a lot of horror stories and feared for my child's safety.

No reason to do daycare for an hour a week - - take baby to a storytime (check your local libraries & bookstores) or park playgroup, etc.

It’d likely be cheaper for you to find mommy and me things. I know our rec center does them, along with the library, and theres a group of moms on FB who coordinate things as well around my town. Then you can make some mom friends, and both be able to socialize and learn together

Developmentally they don't really pay attention to the other children much until they're at least two. Before then it's just another curiosity, they don't really interact or play together cooperatively. If you think baby would benefit from watching other kids and adults around you can always go to a park or storytime at the library. Most daycares have slots because they have radiosthey have to keep, so you'd end up paying for a full slot even if your child is only there an hour

In sure there's types of classes you could join. I take my daughter to the mall and there's a small indoor playground. It's free and she can interact all with my supervision. She's only 1 so I don't feel comfortable leaving her with people I don't know until she can speak.

Daycares are for children's survival (their parents have to work). They are NOT for enrichment. Keep your baby with you and join programs, library playtime, baby music classes, playgroups, etc.
