First Ultrasound at 10 weeks?

I called our local OBGYN that I’ve never been to before and they claim they don’t do a first ultrasound of baby until 10 wks? This seemed far away to me!! I didn’t go in to get my pregnancy test verified either. Any reason it should be sooner than later or not?! I know everyone’s not a doctor but just curious when did you go in for your first appointment?!

a lot of places wait til after 8 weeks because you can't see much before then. 10 weeks is when baby starts looking like a baby

Totally normal. And the tests they use are the “same technology” as the ones we use at home. So if you got a positive at home test they won’t verify. With low risk pregnancies they don’t usually do ultrasounds until close to 12weeks. Totally normal

I got a first ultrasound at 12 weeks and my doctor believed me when I said I had a positive pregnancy test. So there wasn’t really a reason to also “verify”

Our doctor won't see you til 8-10 weeks most technologically won't pict up a heartbeat until then and they do not want to stress you out for no reason. Also the baby has developed enough for them to be able to clearly see the baby and determine your due date. It sucks but trust me it's for your own good!!

Thanks ladies! I wouldn’t say I’m high risk so I suppose the doctors may know best on this one 😂 I just see so many people heading in earlier but I will just be patient 😌

Normal. I won’t get mine until 10 wks either. Unless you have a history of high risk pregnancies or miscarriages they wait anywhere from 8-10 to even 12 wks depending on your doctor. That way they have a better chance of actually seeing something. It’s supposed to reduce stress, imagine if you went in at 5 or 6 weeks and they couldn’t find anything yet you’d probably spend more time stressing and freakin out than if you had waited until 8 weeks or later when it’s more easily detectable.

My obgyn won’t see anyone until 7 to 8 weeks pregnant. He won’t do an ultrasound (if you not high risk) before 12 weeks. If you are high risk he does them sooner.

Normal. Mine does not do “confirmation” unless there is a complication, and schedules first visit between 8-10 weeks.

That is normal. I know it doesn’t feel like it, cause it seems like so many on this app have ultrasounds so much earlier. Some of them have them earlier because of high risk factors, some actually go in and pay places that do ultrasounds to get early ones!
I had mine at 11 weeks. (Would have been 10, I just had too many conflicts that week to schedule!)

Yup. Normal. My dr won’t see anyone until 7-8 weeks. If you go any earlier, you won’t see much and it’ll just cause worry.
