Monuments
⚠️‼️‼️THIS ISN’T ABOUT RACE, SO LET’S NOT BRING IT UP. THIS IS ABOUT TELLING THE TRUTH IN HISTORY‼️‼️⚠️
On my morning commute, I was listening to the radio and the host was talking about how monuments were being removed (e.g Civil War generals from the south, other celebratory monuments from the south during the Civil War). The radio host was talking about how it is in fact wrong to celebrate these, but instead of removing them, just to add the truth. This plaque would tell the how horrible this person actually was, or what bad thing it was and tell the awful truth that a country has.
So here’s the question. Do you think these monuments should be removed, or should we be telling the actual awful truth?
In society, we wash down the truth of the horrible things that all of our countries may have done. We tell a different story without telling how that person got there, what people were fighting for, and how this person achieved what they did and so on. Columbus Day is right around the corner, that is a PERFECT example of how we water down the truth and lie. So what do you think would be best?
