14 weeks and thinking about giving up a shift at work!
Alright so I’m 33, 14w preggo and I work as a waitress (even tho I’ve a bachelors degree in Graphic Design ☹️) in a very small restaurant in the country, in Ireland. I usually work 35-40 hours per week, in 4 days (Saturday to Wednesday). They’re long days, 7-10 hrs a day, sometimes more. Because it’s a very small restaurant (there’s only one waitress and one chef) I have to do a LOT, like take orders, clean the floor and the kitchen, wash dishes, take orders for take out and sometimes even doa bit of cooking if we are too busy and the chef needs assistance. Taking breaks have always been an issue, I usually only have a 20m break a day, sometimes I cant eat till very late and before I got pregnant that didn’t bother me but now I’m starting to get concerned! Last week was really hard for me, when I was working my last shift I felt really week and started to get some cramps. My feet were so tired and my back was aching so I began thinking maybe it’s time to give up a day and start doing only 3 days a week. I also have a 3 yo, very active little girl. When I’m off I feel so tired and don’t give her the proper attention, I feel shitty about it.
I’m having such a hard time writing to the owner/my boss tho. I’m feeling guilty and in the back of my mind there’s a feeling that I shouldnt give up these hours. We are a working class family, we always worked long hours and depend on our wages, we live in the country so making money and finding work opportunities is so hard. I’m feeling like a loser.
What’s your experience with work and pregnancy? I didnthave this problem with first pregnancy but I had an easy job then, I was working at a design agency in NY so I worked til I popped.
