Anyone ever heard of putting a tsp of rice in formula??

So my son is 4 weeks tomorrow and the pediatrician told me to put rice in his formula for helping him with reflux..It’s supposed to feel him up faster too..Anyone ever heard this??

That's super old school and has been proven to be dangerous. It can be a choking hazard and have a negative impact on the development of the GI system and healthy gut bacteria.

Yeah don't do that. It was common decades ago but it is no longer recommended. Is your pediatrician really old??

I’d find a new pediatrician. Its a huge choking hazard. Babies belly isnt ready for it, and its a myth that it fills them up longer. If the reflux is that bad, look into formulas for that. Enfamil makes one that was a lifesaver for my cousin.

Our son had the same problem around that age, and our pediatrician told us to do the same thing. We would watch him eat about a gulp and we would take it out of his mouth, and set him on our chest or upright for just a few then feed him again. It was a very long process but it worked for him. By 2 months we had to start putting jarred food into his bottles as well cause the cereal was starting to get to thick. Now he's a happy healthy 2 year old. Just do what you feel is right mama!!

I’ve heard of it, moms have been doing it for a long time to fill up babies before bed. A lot are going against it though saying the rice cereal poses a choking hazard.
