Used car seat?

This may be a really dumb question, but is it okay to reuse a car seat for a second child, if you bought the car seat new for your first and it’s never been in an accident? (Assuming it’s still under warranty) Or do I need to buy a new car seat for every baby? I’m asking because my son will be outgrowing his infant seat soon and we’re planning to get pregnant again in the next year or two, so I want to know if I can keep his current car seat in storage, (we still have the original box to keep it in) or if I need to get rid of it and buy a new one for our next baby.

You can use it. Just make sure that it hasn't expired and that there's no new recalls on it when you remove it from storage. :)

Is this expiry date an American thing? I'm from the UK and obviously know not to use a seat if it's been in an accident, but have never heard about this expiry date thing. I'll be reusing my Sons car seat as he's only 15months and is in a fixed seat now instead.

Yes, it’s fine to use as long as it hasn’t been in an accident or expired. The expiration date is different for every brand. My children are two years apart, and we reused the Chicco keyfit 30 that was new for my first child.

Yes we’re using my son’s infant seat for number 2 😊 have recently just got it out of storage and given it a deep clean even though I still have like 20 weeks to go haha.

Yup you can reuse as long as it hasn’t had any big bumps/ hasn’t expired and is in good condition. I think their expiry is 10 years?? Could be wrong but it is written down on every car seat

As long as the seat isn’t expired or recalled its fine. We used our infant seat for both kids. My poor son was called a girl for the 1st 3 months of his life because he was in his sister’s pink seat🤣🤣. But my kids are 16 months apart so I knew the seat hadn’t expired.

did you make sure and register it when you got it? all baby items should be registered so you are alerted to recalls/etc. but most car seats expire after 2 to 3 years as long as its not expired and has an active registration for recalls you should be good.
