Tuesday afternoon I went in for my routine NST due to Polyhydramnios and PIH. While there I was contracting every 3-5 minutes. I was given a shot of Terbutaline and kept on the monitors. At 33w exactly these contractions weren't stopping so my OB sent me up via ambulance to a hospital with a level 3 NICU (local doesnt deliver until 35w). I was in tears with my husband, who just started a brand new job, over the phone telling him what was going on. Our 21 month old was at her aunt's house still. Anyway the ambulance got to the hospital before my husband was able to get there and the nurse hooked me up to a magnesium sulfate IV. I hope that ride was my first and last. On the way I was still contracting every 3 minutes. It seemed like forever but we finally made it to the hospital. Once there and settled I got checked and was 50% effaced and 2cm dilated. I know it doesnt seem like much but 3 days prior i wasn't effaced at all and barely dilated. AFI and baby's growth was checked via ultrasound and the fluid had increased by 2cm and baby weighs around 4lb10oz. The dr. took me off magnesium and started me on Nifedipine (procardia). Continued to contract for another hour before everything started to slow down. Baby was constantly monitored, has been head down for about 3 weeks, and anterior placenta. We had to stay in the hospital for two days , of which I slept about an hour and a half since Monday night. We finally got the go-ahead to come home with the stipulation of light duty for a week or two and sent home with nifedipine in case of more contractions. I am still pretty sore around my pelvis and upper part of my uterus. Baby is healthy and thats all that matters.
