Do contraceptive injections make you infertile?

My friend said it did but I think she's scaring me on purpose

It really messed me up my body was going into menopause, and my doc took me off the depo shot and I had to take hormone pills to try to get me back to normal, I was 20 at the time (22 now and just barley carried my son full term)

I don't think they make you infertile but a lot of ppl have had a hard time conceiving after coming off of it. I've heard so many horror stories and bad side effects, I'd never use it or recommend it.
