I use organic shea butter, because my skin is really sensitive and doesn't like other ointments/oils/lotions.
The main thing is to keep it moisturized. Talk to your artist about their specific recommendations, as they will know what aftercare works best with their inks.

I used aquaphor on all of my tattoos. They didn't peel, and healed pretty quickly. To make sure it stays looking great apply it throughout the day of you feel it has gotten too dry. Try not to wear anything that will rub against it a lot, friction and dryness will cause irritation and you may start wanting to scratch it, so try to avoid that, loose fitting items in that area until you're comfortable. Also, DO NOT SCRUB THAT AREA WHEN YOU ARE TAKING A BATH/SHOWER. This is sooooo important. Let the soapy water run over the area and that will be fine. I suggest an dial gold.

My artist makes her own natural salves using coconut oil as an ingredient, along with beeswax and lavender, so you’re fine! I’d use coconut oil before any lotion or ointment.

Yes you can use coconut oil! That's what I use and it works like a charm. It's  antibacterial and antifungal, which helps protect your tatto during healing.
