sertaline?

My sister was just prescribed sertaline for depression and I was just wondering if anyone has experience with it? The doctor said most of her patients only have to take it for 6-12 months before they feel well enough to stop taking it. Does that sound right? And my sister said her tummy is burning every time she takes it. I'm just worried about her. Any advice is welcome

I’ve taken that med two different times. I was on it about 2 years the first time and less than a year the second time. It was very helpful for me. I don’t remember experiencing stomach issues with it but she might want to try taking it with food, that might help. I always took it at bedtime to avoid the dry mouth and drowsiness, so she might want to try that too.

I’ve never heard you only have to be on it for 6-12 months, especially if it’s for chronic depression. You can have your dose reduced if you’re feeling better. If it’s being used for a major depressive episode that time frame sounds about right. Not sure about the burning sensation, she should speak with her doctor about that.

I’ve been on sertaline for 6 months plus, found out I was pregnant then had to stop it. 5 weeks later I’m sooooo depressed don’t think I’ve ever felt this low, my partners mum is also on this and it’s helped her she’s been on it for 2 years x

I am on the same one. Mine has to be increased. I have chronic depression. I have never heard of only taking it that long.
