Can members of the opposite sex really be just friends?

Yes. If you can’t be friends with someone of the opposite sex without wanting to take it further then you have issues. I’m actually still Bestfriend’s with one of my ex’s. We’re both in new relationships and planning to marry soon so no lines are crossed. We all know about eachother, when he’s in town we all hang out. 
I made friends (of both sexes) at my last job and we’d meet up for drinks or dinner 🤷🏾‍♀️ it’s harmless and everyone needs friends

I have more friends that are guys than I do girls. I’ve never done anything sexual with any of them. They are simply friends, nothing more, nothing less.

Yes. My best friend is a guy. He’s been my best friend for a decade. He has always been there for me. I’ve known him longer than I know my husband. Him and his family took me in when my parents kicked me out. He’s always had my back. Even when nearly everyone else had turned on me. I love him in a best friend kind of way. I love my husband in a totally different way. I’ve never been sexually or romantically interested in my best friend. We both agree that would be nasty lol. I just don’t see him like that at all. He’s also friends with my husband. He introduced us to one another, actually. He stayed in our home for a few months when he needed a place to stay. It’s silly to think that a man and a woman can’t be just friends. And then what about gay men and women? They can’t have just platonic friends of the same sex?

I’ve got a couple male friends. They’re just friends. I have zero intention nor desire of dating them. They’re completely platonic relationships. My boyfriend has a few female friends too (one actually is his ex). But I’ve never worried about any of them because their friendship is so obviously just a friendship. You’re not attracted to every personality the same way, not every man you see on the street is someone you’re physically attracted too. It’s the same for guys. 
And what about gay people? Are they only able to be friends of the opposite sex because they’re attracted to their own sex? I’ve got a couple friends that are lesbians and they’re just friends and have never been or tried to be anything more than that. They like having girl friends as well as a girlfriend. 
Bisexual people have friends too and they’re attracted to both sexes. Just because you’re attracted to people of a certain sex doesn’t mean that you can’t have platonic relationships with others of that sex.

Yes I worked in an automotive shop for a year and a a half and I’m still friends with almost all of them. It’s very possible to not be sexually attracted to every man you see but still get along with them

I'm not sexually attracted to every man (in fact, I find a pretty small subset of men sexually attractive). I think the vast majority of heterosexual men & women would agree that not every member of the opposite sex is sexually attractive. So there have been plenty of occasions where I think a man is perfectly nice but I have zero interest in them sexually or romantically. Again, I think this is a common experience. So.... that's a friend right there.
