Period is confusing me

Hi ladies. So I’ve been taking my birth control pill for 4 years. Once I started taking it my periods got lighter and lighter and eventually I had no period at all. I’m supposed to get my period on my off week of my pill pack, the iron pills or what others call placebo. I never get a period on this off week, nor do I ever experience cramps or other PMS. Last months period, only one time, I used the bathroom and when I wiped there was a significant amount of blood on the toilet paper. The rest of the day and next day it was pink when I wiped. I thought this was so weird because I never EVER bleed like that.. it has been years. Here we go again this month, it’s my off week and I woke up today with horrible cramps and when I went pee the first time there was brown discharge when I wiped. This last time there was a mix of brown discharge and very faint actual red blood. I want to know why all of a sudden I’m getting what seems to be a period??? I’m honestly very frustrated and want to either be on a different pill (if that would make a difference or not) or not be on any BC for a while. I don’t know if I miss a period if I don’t get a period. Ugh.
