Cold sores

I have never had cold sores before. that is until now! it's been terrible, my mouth is full of lesions and my lymph nodes are completely inflamed. I've never had anything like this before. I'm going to the doctor to make sure that there isn't any underlying issues that may have caused this. the only thing I could think of is that I had a huge emotional impact recently that made me feel as though I needed to shut down. has anyone else ever had anything like this happen before? I'm not exactly sure what to do to ease the pain in my mouth. I've been taking Advil and swishing with salt water. I'm hoping that there's nothing more serious going on.
