Blood work costing a fortune?

I have pretty good health insurance. Last month I had my routine blood work down for pregnancy confirmation and a CBC to make sure my levels are all healthy. I just got a bill for close to $3,000 for these tests, my insurance already covered 60%, so it was originally even more than that. I’m sorry, but what? Why would a simple blood test cost that much? Do you think this is a mistake or are pregnancy blood tests seriously that expensive?

That sounds a little ridiculous. With insurance mine were only $125, although I never looked at how much total cost was before.

don't pay a penny yet. call your insurance and tell them what's happened and figure out what they do and don't cover. Then call the billing office back and tell them you received a bill and you need paper work showing what all was done (an itemized list) and paper work showing it was run through your insurance. It could be as simple as they didn't run it through your insurance and just billed you.

Ask for an itemized list and call your insurance company. These are billed by people and people make mistakes. I hope that’s a mistake because that’s hella expensive

thats crazy. My bloodwork wasnt covered by insurance and it was still under 100

I have to get all my blood work thru quest labs for my insurance to cover them. I went to the doctor yesterday to get all the blood work done for the first time and she told me to go straight to quest because if my insurance doesn’t cover it those test are between $3000 and $5000. I don’t remember paying a lot out of pocket for those with my first but just to make sure call your insurance and make sure  you can get blood work done everywhere.
