Anyone's doctors office told you this?

So this is my first pregnancy, currently 5 weeks. I called Kaiser to make an apt ASAP, they said soonest I could schedule was at 8 weeks. I thought that was odd sine I hear of girls going in right away...not only that I asked for blood work to make sure levels are doubling and not decreasing. She said unless I've been at risk of before then they would draw blood, otherwise they don't do it. I said ok well I've only taken a hpt, what do you do to confirm my pregnancy. She replied with "your hpt is your confirmation, we will do a urine sample but that's it" so again this is my first pregnancy not really sure what to expect. This is Kaiser I'm dealing with so not that it's a little whole in the wall hospital. As anyone been told this?? I'm so confused. My first apt with my doc isn't until June 23rd :/
