First class: check!

Sylvia
Hello ladies! I thought I would share a little bit about our first hypnobirthing class we had last night. We did the NHS class the night before and while that was informative there were 20 couples in the room and the topics were very different, as you can imagine!
There are three couples in our class, one at 23, one at 24 and us at 31 weeks. This teacher normally limits classes to four couples. We met in a comfortable room with a sofa and a coffee table and some exercise balls, like someone's lounge.
We started off talking about our pregnancies, our experiences and common preconceptions of birth, and why they're so popular. Fathers also shared why they wanted to do this course and their hopes for the birth.
One part I particularly liked was our discussion of language, and how it affects our perception of the birthing process; why we should use "surges" instead of "contractions" for example.
She then proceeded to describe what happens to our body, physiologically, during labour. The different muscles in action, what hormones are produced and what environmental conditions can help produce or hinder the production of those hormones.
Finally we discussed where the hypnosis comes into all of this. If you've got all these unconscious fears and ideas about birth and doubts about your ability to give birth without pain then the easiest way to reprogram your brain is through hypnosis.
That's pretty much it for week 1! We're doing it over 4 weeks and I would highly recommend it. It'll give us a chance to process and practice between sessions.
