Making your own water wipes ?

Has anyone ever made their own water wipes ? We’ve been purchasing the water wipes brand because those are the only ones that don’t irritate my sons skin . I’ve been looking on Pinterest for ways to make water wipes and came across a DIY where she used another brand of baby wipes and washed them in the washing machine with a little dawn to get all of the stuff off of those and then she let them all dry . Then she put them in a reusable wipes container with distilled water and a little coconut oil . We have a whole box of pampers wipes that we can’t use because they give our LO a diaper rash. Instead of returning them to the store (such a hassle without a receipt ...even at my local Walmart ), I was thinking of trying this . Has anyone ever done this ? I’m just kind of wondering about the whole washing baby wipes thing . I know they won’t fall a part but are baby wipes sterile in the pack already? I just want to try this out because water wipes are expensive . I also wanted to add that we don’t want to use reusable wipes of any sort , because someone may mention that .

Added: I also don’t want to use paper towels. I’d rather buy the dry baby wipes and make them with those , however, I’m trying to figure out a way to use what I already have so that I don’t waste .
