Should the military become hourly?

It was at one point but it is now salary.

No. My husband is military and it would make no sense to pay hourly. They get leave, sometimes are in the field for months on end, they have no set schedule.

The military gets paid a flat rate, which coincidentally is NOT a lot of money. My husband is an E5 (ranks for enlisted are E1-E9 so he’s half way through the enlisted ranks, just think about that) in the marines, and he makes a roughly 2800 a month after all taxes, benefits, etc. are taken out. I couldn’t imagine what little he’d make on an hourly basis. So NO! The military is not like working a department store job, or a 9-5 office job. They can get called in at a moments notice at 2am and have to show up to work and leave for a few days to months. You can’t factor in overtime either cause they would ALWAYS be working over time. For instance boot camp, those drill instructors pretty much live at that boot camp for 3 months. They may get to come home every few days for like 3 hours to sleep but that’s it. Then if they’re lucky they MIGHT get a few weeks off after and have to do it all over again. in theory it would sound great to do hourly and overtime, but in actuality it would be a HORRIBLE thing to do. People could wind up loosing money and working longer hours so they didn’t go over their budget.

No, they never have set schedules. My brother in law is full time right now and he works a lot, sure, but there’s days where he literally does nothing. My sister on the other hand is reserves, she goes out every month for work, and is always on call if needed, but she and others on reserves wouldn’t make any money. Active duty still wouldn’t benefit from hourly either, especially since they would cut the pay dramatically and most likely their benefits too. I am always actively fighting for our troops to earn more money, but this isn’t a way they could.

I said yes, but others on here are right. Military personnel have weird schedules. I do think if they have to work more than they should they should get over time (which is where my head was at)

I feel if they paid hourly they would end up reducing everyone’s pay especially when being in the military gives you so many benefits including housing and medical etc

if it were hourly it would be nuts, my husband gets 1 day off every two weeks being deployed. 😂

Why? When they pull duty and work 24hrs straight what are you gonna do? Pay them overtime plus double pay? 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️
