Early pregnancy

so I went to the doctors to get a sonogram and they said I was too early In the pregnancy so they can not see the fetus yet . I’m 6 weeks . They said it can be the fetus is too small or I can be going through a ectopic pregnancy 😢 . Anyone ever been through one & ever been told this by a doctor??
