Engagement rings

How much did your SO spend on your engagement ring ? does it have to be expensive? my fiance wants me to pick out a ring that I like . I look and a lot I see for like 3,000 and up. I don't really want him to spend that much max I feel like 1000 is good also need to get a wedding band to so I feel like it adds up. my mother thinks it's cheap and thinks I should get something expensive. but I honestly dont care what people think of my ring if it looks cheap or whatever. what really matters to me is that I'm his wife hes my husband and I will carry his last name. which is funny he was the first to say I love you and when I eventually said it back I told him I hope that one day I will have his last name written on paper and eventually written in stone 😍 cause that's my baby I love him more than anything and I feel like my mom is being selfish like she's the one getting married. I know she's the type that if I get what I want and not listen to her she will always pick on what I chose. what do you think ?
