To my child not yet conceived...

We didn’t succeed at creating you last month, and your Daddy felt like a failure. I held his hands and told him that the biggest blessings are the ones worth waiting for. He cannot wait to kiss your 10 fingers and 10 toes, watch your tiny lips curl up into your first smile, or hear your first babble.

Before I met your daddy, I never wanted children. It wasn’t long after we married that the idea of a child that was half me and half the love of my life became so enticing that I decided I wanted you more than I wanted anything in the world.

I cannot wait to look into your little face and see pieces of me and pieces of your father all mixed together to create the most perfect, beautiful human being— a product of love that is so undeniably irresistible.

We may not have gotten you this month— but please take your time, baby, because we’ll be waiting for you.

With all the love in the universe,

Mama and Daddy
