A chemical pregnancy is when the eggy doesn't implant properly for whatever reason. It is usually (though not always) just before or just after your period was due. It definitely will not ever require a d&c.; 
Most times chemical pregnancies aren't even picked up on, period is late haven't tested before period then period just turns up. The only reason we even know about chemical pregnancies is due to how sensitive at home tests are now.
There really is something to be said for testing a few days after a missed period and not before.

I had one and my body just bled like a period. I did go to the doctors though as I had a stillborn in September so they checked me over. X

a chemical pregnancy definitely doesn't require a doctor. it happens between 3-4 weeks so you will just get a normal period and can retry next cycle
