What age did you transition out of crib?

So, I’m pregnant and I have a son who just turned one. He will be 15 months old when I give birth.

We don’t really want to purchase another crib, but are thinking we would rather put my older son into a proper bed with the guard rails and put new baby into the crib.

We looked into toddler beds but I also don’t see the point, it means buying another crib mattress and my son is very big for his age, he is in the 98th percentile for height and is a little bruiser too, I think he would outgrow it so fast. I was considering getting him a twin with the rails as I said, and hoping that worked out.

I’ll likely keep the newborn in my bedroom in a bassinet for the first couple months for night feeds, so he could still have his crib a bit longer — or learn to transition into his big kid bed.

What age did you transition out of a crib? Did you skip a toddler bed or is it really that easier for them, any advice for transitioning? I’m just a bit nervous about having a newborn and a toddler adjusting to his new bed as well.
