Sometimes your plans change...

Emily

On February 7th I had a normal ob check up to see where my cervix was, which wasn't dilated. But unfortunately my blood pressure was high... in this day I was 39 weeks and 4 days. I had been experiencing high blood pressure since week 34, was never diagnosed with preclampsia because well honestly the pregnancy was perfect up till that point. But now doc was concerned and since I was basically at my d, ue date, it was time to get my little girl out. I made my way over to the hospital, got checked into my room. From there my plans changed completely, I wanted a natural no interventions birth. First I was given cervadil to thin out my cervix, which took about 12 hours. During this time i experienced menstrual like cramping, which wasn't too bad. But then came time to start me on pitocin, which I never wanted to experience ever! And let me tell you, those contractions were horrible and dibiltating, which caused me to weakly ask for an epidural. From there sure the pain was gone I could rest before pushing. It was all too surreal, I couldn't feel my legs but somehow was still able to push, within only 12 hours of being induced on pitocin, 30 min of pushing my amazing beautiful little girl was born. She's perfect in every way. Except for me, my blood pressure continued to stay after birth. They monitored me, put me on medication, so I literally spent 5 days in the hospital because my body has failed me after birth. I can't begin to express how emotional I am over this whole experience. But the doctors are hopeful the medication will help me level out my pressure over time. I hope they're right, my girl needs me around. I guess the whole point is you never know what's going to happen. Am I disappointed I didn't get to experience what I wanted? yes I am. But I'm glad I had great doctors and nurses there for me when this all happened
