Is this normal for a period?

Curious what this could be...is it normal period tissue? My period was supposed to start today but yesterday I woke up spotting, only when I wiped, in the afternoon I was cramping and having pelvic pain, then last night I started cramping bad, having lower back pain (have had the lower back pain for about a week now along with mild cramps) and I started bleeding. Today I was still cramping and this fell into the toilet..just a normal period or a miscarriage?
