Hated Namesake
Okay, I need to be clear here. I don't hate the person my husband wants to name the baby after if it's a boy, I just really dislike his name. Sean Michael.
My husband's best friend from childhood died unexpectedly in his sleep a couple of months ago and he really wants to honor his friend.
I completely get this desire to pay tribute, but not only don't I like his first name, I have several exes with his middle name. He and my husband had been estranged for years and had not spoken again at the time of his death. Also, he left a brother and a daughter who have the ability to carry his name forward (my husband says he doesn't want his name to die).
I'm looking for advice from people who have dealt with similar issues. Perhaps suggestions of nicknames that I haven't considered. Mike as a nickname is totally out as we have a little boy already known as Ike. No licorice candy kids for us.
Please help! I'm pretty thick skinned too, so don't worry about that. I'm the one who brought it up.
