Is it safe for a newborn to sleep in a swing/glider?

Asking cause SIDS. What is the safest item to put a newborn baby in while sleeping? Bassinet, crib, playpen, or swing/glider?

Babies should not sleep in anything that has straps... Like a car seat or swing. The best and safest place is in a crib or bassinet on their backs.

Newer guidance says they need to be flat on their back on a firmer surface. That is why you see warnings about swings, slings, car seats (outside of being actively used in the car), couches, etc. That and the straps or soft sides. You can always check with your pediatrician for their recommendations.

My daughter slept in a rock n play she was a csec baby and they say to elevate their upper body though so that's why I started it with her otherwise she would have been flat.

My mom told me the doctors where afraid of me dying from SIDS and told her to have me sleeping at an angle rather than flat on my back but I also had failure to thrive so I don't know if that's a cause for that sleeping arrangement either

It's best that they sleep flat on their backs in their own container (crib, bassinet, co-sleeper). Most babies didn't get that memo though and will dictate to you how and where they'll sleep. My first would only sleep in a rock-n-play or a swing for the first few months. And then, when he transitioned to his crib around 3 months, he'd always roll over onto his stomach. I had to learn to let go a little of the guidelines because I was such a hot mess that I wasn't useful to anyone, especially my son, when I was getting no sleep.
