Combination feeding?

My baby is 7 days old And I tried strictly breastfeeding but only last 5 days before introducing one bottle of formula at nighttime to keep him topped up. He was 9lb and is a very hungry baby, thinking of introducing formula alongside breast. Any advice or certain ways to do so?

I’ve been strictly breastfeeding since day one and I’ve notice some nights it just felt like as much as she ate she wasn’t satisfied so I’ve given her a couple bottle and she’s fine. It actually seemed to help because I felt like I was then able to pump and get ahead of her feeding then the next night I just gave her what I pumped. Don’t stress over breastfeeding. Stress is one way your supply can lower so if it gives you piece of mind of giving him a bottle here and there it’s fine. Your the parent and you breast feeding has already given him many benefits.

If your breastfeeding that’ll mess up your supply. Babies don’t need to be “topped off” in order to level out your supply so you make enough, baby will need to be at the breast a LOT the first 6 weeks. It’s recommended no formula, bottle, or pumping for the first 6 weeks so baby can get your supply to what they need. I would not do both if I didn’t have to.

My 6 week old eats constantly! We give formula here and there, a bottle or so a day in addition to breastfeeding. I haven’t noticed any supply drop, so I imagine it’s fine!
