What would you do?

Question

I want to help a friend out by buying her groceries but i know she won’t accept money or me taking her to the store to get what she needs. 
She is a young mom of 2 boys under 3 going through a divorce and has no family to help her. We had a girls night a few nights ago and she had a little too much to drink and opened up to me about how much she goes without eating because she wants to make sure her boys are fed first and she just don’t have the money to buy herself food. I don’t think she even remembers telling me any of this because I asked her about something else she told me and she didn’t even remember that. 
I thought about loading money on to a grocery store gift card and sliding it under her door, but If I do that I can’t be sure she will buy food for herself with it. She would probably just buy stuff for the kids. 
I guess I could just go buy stuff myself and drop it of but I don’t know what they would eat for sure. And I want the money to go towards stuff that will get eaten because I don’t have money to just be wasting either. 
What would you do? Or any other ideas?

I believe some grocery stores will deliver. Or you could do the grocery shopping yourself and drop it off on her doorstep ( given that you know shes home ). Thats very nice of you !

I was in your friends spot with only one little one and even when I was pregnant I never had enough to eat because of the situation I was in. One day my son's father came home from work and had a bag full of food that was donated by his unit as a part of the army's support groups "give for the holiday" cause they knew we were struggling even though I never talked about it. Sometimes our neighbors across the street would cook and invite us over to eat and later I learned she somehow knew too. These acts made me feel nothing but blessed that there were even complete strangers looking out for me in this way and if I had a friend buy me groceries and drop them off I would still be grateful. I say go for it, I bet she'd be really grateful and you don't even have to bring up money troubles, just say you were at the store and felt like doing something nice for her. No more no less :)

when I have had friends in tight spots, i have just made dinners for them and brought them over under the "I was bored.." "I cooked too much..."  "I wanted to try a recipe..."  Then I will randomly bring over pantry staples, like rice, pasta, milk, bread, eggs, flour, fruit, veggies. "they were on sale.." "bogo..." "had extra..." "really great coupon..."

I guess fruit and vegetables won’t hurt!  Also pasta, rice, soup, beans (cans) or sauces.  I’m sure she’ll appreciate anything and all I mentioned is something you can never offend anybody with.  
She’s lucky she has such a friend like you!
