Long feeding?

It took over 3 hours to feed my 4 week old, he had well over 5 oz and still wanted more. I was shocked he was hungry and little by little gave him more. He must have been over stimulated and fussy. Now after 1 hour of sleep he is hungry again. Is this normal? Ftm here

I agree with other comments here! Try different holds and patting to get gas out. Sometimes my little guy will eat for a several hours and only take short breaks. I always burp him well during those times. I also try to interact with him if it's daytime so he stays awake. Once he stops cluster feeding, he'll usually take a longer nap for me! Go with your gut though!!! You're momma, and you'll know if something is wrong.

It took 5 hours? Does he need a faster nipple? Too slow of a nipple will give him gas and make him grumpy. But too fast will do the same thing lol

How are the burps? If you are getting solid burps and he isn’t throwing up or spitting up then maybe he is cluster feediNg. If you aren’t getting burps and maybe he is starting to spit up I’d say he is over eating and is soothing himself. Try a pacifier if you aren’t opposed to it and make sure you are really getting the gas out during such an extended feeding. The discomfort may make him eat and the more he eats the more uncomfortable he will be — it’ll become a vicious cycle

Babies do mistake gas pain for hunger. Burp every ounce if you’re bottle feeding, or purp every 5 minutes if breastfeeding. Also, it could be due to a growth spurt. Babies have a big one right around 4-6 weeks!
