Reluctant to test... thoughts?

My AF was due on the 2nd. I had gotten some period symptoms such as acne and bloating here and there and gas. I didn't get the cramps which is unusual. As far as DPO? I'm not sure if I should be counting from the end of ovulation or the start or? For the last few days I have had very light spotting only when I wipe, which is very unusual for me. Once I start, it's a heavy flow for the first few days. My nipple were sore for about 3-4 days prior to the date I was supposed to start. My SO wants to test in the morning, but I'm hesitant thinking it's just stress. I don't want to be disappointed.
