Scheduled c-section question

My first was an emergency c-section so I'm not sure exactly what to expect with a scheduled one.   Do they use epidural for it or do you go under completely?  With my first I was induced and waited 36 hours  my LO heart rate kept dropping so they rushed me in. I had already had the epidural placed because it was suppose to be a vaginal delivery. So any tips and experiences you've had I'd love to hear it.
