Anyone swim? Recreationally or competitively? What are your workouts? :)

A fellow swimmer!! Whoo hoo😂👍🏼 I swim rec with my local team in summer and USA in the off season as well as high school swim. I think you asked about warm ups right?? A pretty general warmup is 200 free, 200 kick, 200 pull and a 200 I.M. drill. That’s enough to knock any non swimmer out😂😂

I used to swim professionally in high school. Now, I only swim for  a good cardio exercise . First and foremost is the warm up. I swim about 300 yards freestyle. Then I start switch around on different strokes. There are days where I include skills and techniques to improve my strokes and some days I just keep swimming long distance. It really depends on what you want to do.

Hi! I’m a swim coach and I swam competitively in high school, so I’ve got about... 15 years of swim experience under my belt. 
What I usually tell adults who want to start swimming is that it takes time to get to a point where you feel strong, but it’s so worth it.
For a beginner, start with about 500 yards ( that’s 10 laps aka 50s or 20 lengths aka 25s). Don’t try to swim the whole thing! Mix up your strokes and add in kicking either on your back or with a kick board!
What’s really important is to do a little research into the freestyle stroke so that you’re swimming with good technique. Swimming incorrectly is by far one of the easiest ways to put a strain in your shoulders that could really hurt you. 
Here’s what I’d recommend: 
100 freestyle, no stopping
4x25 backstroke, rest 5 sec at each wall
100 kick, kick down easy, kick back fast
4x50 freestyle, rest 30 seconds at the starting end, up tempo but not a sprint, focus on streamlines, long reach, and bending your elbows under water. Don’t let your front arm move until your face is back in the water after your breath – your arms should switch when your hand coming forward is at the elbow of the arm out front!

After you feel comfortable with this, I’d start adding and extra 100 per day. You’ll probably swim the first workout for two weeks before you start adding yards and that’s ok!
