Clothes for a Summer Newborn?

Hi ladies! First timer here. Baby Girl is due on June 10th. I have some hand me downs from friends in 0-3 months, but I'm not sure if I should be looking for long sleeves and pants, layers, or short sleeves. Average temps here will be between 70 and 80 for June. I plan to start scoping out some second hand sales and want tips for what to look out for.

Drs usually recommend dressing baby like you would dress for the weather. That use to push putting a had on a baby at all times but that's gone away in the last few years. Just do what you think you would be comfortable in. You don't want baby to over heat and sweat. I always keep a blanket in the car. That way baby didn't get cold from the AC. Other than that they get dressed like I would dress. Usually shorts.

Congratulations! I am due June 12th with a girl, FTM. While I too have collected some 0-3 items in both shirt sleeve and long, I also got 5 packs in short and long sleeve in the newborn size. Must of my gfs with babies in the area recommended long sleeve onesies with short or capri options until later in the summer when we will actually leave the house!

I have a lot of hand me downs from other Sister in Laws that have summer babies. It’s a lot of short sleeves, pants, rompers, dresses. I also have clothes from my first that was born in March, some long sleeves, and short sleeve onesies. In summer, I’d say dress the baby in something similar to what you would wear to be comfortable. You don’t want them over heating.

I would have a little of both. If you’re in air conditioning all day during the summer and baby is inside too, long sleeve isn’t a bad idea as it can get chilly. If windows are open and there’s a nice breeze, maybe a short sleeve onesie and a light swaddle blanket for nap time? Every baby is different... my son NEVER would sweat and always felt cold to me, he would wear terry cloth fitted pajamas and be wrapped in two fuzzy blankets in the rock and play to nap in... his two cousins are both weeks apart from him and they both would sweat constantly and couldn’t be in a blanket and only thin pajamas. I would have a few items of both and eventually see how your daughter adapts.

My daughter for the first few months lived in just onesies or just a diaper, got very few cute little outfits since we didn't go anywhere really and she was born a lot smaller then we expected. Most baby's on both sides are 10lbs or bigger at birth so we planned for that but she was a tiny 5lbs so nothing we had fit her

I’ve gotten some cute dresses and things for when we go out. I also bought some super cute knee high socks if she needs something covering her legs. I keep my babies in sleepers or long sleeve onesies at home because we have A/C. I also carry a light blanket everywhere in case we go somewhere with the A/C going strong.
