Is the fetishizing/glamorization of mental illness getting worse?

🌙🔮

I have brought this subject up on here before because I think it’s a very interesting topic that doesn’t get discussed enough. So basically I just wanted to talk about what peoples opinions on the fetishizing, glamorizing, glorifying, romanticizing, of mental illness trend that we see happening over social media and with newer generations. Do you think it is worsening? Do you believe in it? Please share your thoughts.

I created this topic and am intrigued by it. I’ve seen many people in my personal life self diagnose and act like their “mental illness” makes them special, unique, cool, edgy. I have seen teenage girls(in particular not solely) create so many issues for themselves that were non existent before or small fixable issues that they exaggerated to be seen as “deeper” to be viewed as ill. I find the behavior and direction this is going to be very disturbing and unhealthy. We went from completely disregarding mental illness as fantasy to creating fantasies about being mentally ill. I feel like there needs to be middle ground. Mental illness should absolutely be acknowledged and dealt with, it should be discussed and it should be taken seriously but let’s not go so far off to one side of it that we’re fabricating reality for ourselves, that mental illness is an accessory. It’s not and shouldn’t be. Please share your thoughts and possible solutions to this issue
