Raise the age to purchase a weapon?

Question

Trump allowed many families to come to the White House, to sit and listen. I thought it was very awesome of him to do that. Such a rare opportunity that really puts pressure on himself to act. One of the things that he brought up was maybe raising the age? What do you all thing about that as an option?

Someone who can’t even purchase an alcoholic drink shouldn’t be able to purchase a weapon, so I’m all for it.

I wouldn't be opposed to it. But again, I don't think that's going to be the ultimate answer because a lot of kids will still have access to guns. Whether their parents own them, or they buy them through an individual. Kids can break into their parents gun safe, just as well as they can break into their liquor cabinet. You can still buy them on amazon, which is where I believe the Florida shooter was able to order the gun online, if I recall correctly. (I could be wrong.) Criminals also like to steal, so if they want one bad enough, (knock on wood.)

I think 25 is appropriate tbh but I'm not very well versed in gun laws too. if I'm not mistaken currently it's 18 for a shot gun and 21 for everything else? correct me if I'm wrong..

It’s not a bad idea but I’d prefer that we instead stop a significant amount of sale until we recover at least 20% of our unaccounted for guns. Raising the age doesn’t do much if the kid can open up an unlocked car door and steal a gun out of the glove compartment, and the owner of that gun is statistically unlikely to realize that the gun is even missing until much later, and by then that gun will probably change hands again or be lost. Many of their parents or friends will also have them in free access or loan them to them if they ask, so I would say if we limit the age it might help out gun violence stats by like 10% of something but I’m betting that we’ll see a rise in gun theft.

Why should boys who serve our country not be able to exercise their second amendment right? I think the same for drinking age.

It was “awesome”? No, it wasn’t awesome. It was awesome to roll back the Obama era gun regulations and this wasn’t awesome. This was necessary so he didn’t appear totally tone deaf and callous. If you think this is done out of any genuine sense of caring or responsibility, try again. It’s political. That’s all.
