1 and 150% chance of Down syndrome?

I was told today that my baby girl might have DS and I will be 20 wks on Thursday  . I'm very worried and of coarse freaking out about the news we received. I'm about to be 22 years old. Has anyone else gone threw this scare? Doctor is recommending the amino test but I don't want to do that  :( any advice ?

Here is my advice. The test might tell you yes but it might tell you no. By taking the test you do risk miscarring for an answer that might or might not be correct. Now lets say the test is positive. What now. You could be better prepared but it could also cause much mire stress. The choice is 100% yours. I wish you the best of luck.

I know of at least 6 kids who tested positive for DS and all came out perfectly fine! I also know someone who had the test done and the doctor accidentally inserted the needle too far into the sac and killed the baby around 20-25 weeks. Just heartbreaking! I will not be having these tests done. They are not accurate, they are high risk and I will love the child no matter what!

Did I got you accurate: you were told that your Baby has DS with a probability of 1:150? or has it been 1:1500? The probability of 1:1500 is completely normal at your age (20-24). Some times they discover while US a higher probability of DS because of some measurements they take.... It's ALWAYS just a probability..... If you take your child anyway - I would NEVER do an amniocentesis because the risk of miscarriage is 4 : 100 ..... Much higher than the risk that your Baby will have DS. Don't let you scare.... Most time your Baby is fine.

Why does the doctor think your baby has DS? Did she have see markers on the ultrasound? Ask your doctor about the maternityt21 or the harmony test. They're not diagnostic tests, but they are screening tests and are pretty accurate. I'm 23 and my doctor found a soft marker for down's at my 20 week ultrasound. She asked me if I wanted an amnio and I declined because no matter what happened, I loved my baby and would keep him. The maternityt21 was negative for down's and the results were confirmed when my little one was born perfectly healthy. Good luck.

Never been pregnant but honestly I'd keep her... People with disabilities grow up to be just as successful as people without disabilities. She will be extremely smart and talented! And just like everyone else. They're very beautiful and handsome.

This is why I'm not going to have that test done. They told my mom that my brother had a high chance of having Downs. They even asked if she wanted to abort. She didnt, and my brother came out completely healthy!

Would you do something different if the test said yes?  If not then don't risk it

I know a lot of those tests can give an initial false positive. If you really want more clarification before delivery consider the amino test. Otherwise in the mean time you can do a lot of reading and research and find support groups for parents of people with ds.

Also people with Down syndrome are some of the nicest kindest most loving and happy people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Ask your Dr to refer to a MFM or high risk specialist.  There are also genetic tests that can be run to further diagnose with doing an amino that are close to 99% accurate.  Talk with your doc
