Depends on your definition of severe. If you're not able to eat because of the nausea, that's riskier than taking Zofran.

I did when I was pregnant with my son 2 years ago. It was the only thing I could take to keep food down. I asked my dr when I had a preconception appointment last month about it and the lawsuit. She said there is something else she'd give me before Zofran this time around but she would never give me Zofran this time unless it was a last resort. My son was fine. I really think it's something that needs to be discussed with a dr on a case by case basis.

I was put on this because I had bad morning sickness I took 4 pills and after seeing and hearing about all the birth defects I stopped and asked for something else. Diclegis is what it's called. It's the only FDA approved drug for nausea in pregnant women. It works wonders since taking it I haven't felt sick once. I highly recommend it.

I did and it didn't work. Had I known about the possible birth defects before, I would not have taken it! I would use it and then 15 mins after I ate it would all come back ): its useless

I took it up to about 14 weeks. I couldn't even keep down water I was so sick and Zofran helped tremendously. I trust my doctor to not prescribe something he thought would harm my baby.

By severe, I mean I projectile vomited all over my new car driving down the road & had to shower and take a 3 hour nap just to knock the migraine from it. Then spent 4 days in bed/ bathroom with only force feeding myself 3 crackers & one piece of cheese pizza before vomiting them back up. =( I took one pill today and actually have enough composure to get dressed and sit on the couch. Just weighing my options of possible birth defects.

I take zofran and it helps so much. If it weren't for zofran I wouldn't have been able to eat for the first 10 weeks of my pregnancy. Unfortunately I'm 18 weeks and still really sick so I still take it once in a while.

Just to update, I posted the question June 8, 2015. I continually got worse and worse despite taking Zofran at max dose 4X day. By late August I had lost 38# and was hospitalized with severe Hyperemesis Gravidarum, malnourishment, dehydration, sludge in my gallbladder and pancreantitis and my potassium has bottomed out to fatal levels (2.1). I was having the heart palpitations and my organs were failing. I was hospitalized for 8 days and had IVs in both arms and had a PICC line placed to provide 24/7 TPN nutrition directly into my body. I continued taking Zofran as needed 1-2x day in additional to other medications for nausea & have a perfectly healthy 2 year old who was born at 36+2.
