Home birth ??

Question

I need like a home birth master post lmao I live in CNY (Utica) and dont even know where to start. I have fidelis/Medicaid. Does Medicaid cover midwives and home births? What else do I need to know? Am I over reacting by not wanting to deliver in my local hospital (it’s terrible and I’ve heard horror stories) how was your home birthing experience? I’m a very low risk pregnancy FYI. If I have a midwife do I still need to see an obgyn? Sorry for all the questions. Also I live right next door to my hospital just in case but really really don’t want to give birth in my hospital. I am hoping for a home birth myself as I have heard wonderful things about it.  If you read the statistics the risks are minimal at home.  
Have you watched the documentary "the business of being born"? It's really fascinating and very informative.  Also, read up on In May Gaskin.  She and her group of midwives have many books and informative videos.

Medicaid was going to cover like 6,000 of my midwife/homebirth!!!! Just depends what kind you have. When you consult with a midwife she will tell you whether or not she accepts Medicaid and which type

I’m a labor and delivery nurse and would NEVER recommend home birth to anyone. I’ve seen even the most low risk deliveries go terribly wrong. If you end up needing a c section to save your babies life you are screwed. So to me this is a no brainer.

Hi Tia! I don't live in your area so I can't direct you to a certain midwife. I would recommend having an OB that you are happy with that also support your decision to see a midwife for a homebirth, just as a backup incase you are transferred to the hospital for any reason. Incase you do get transferred it would be nice to have a doctor you trust and that is willing to respect your wishes on a low intervention birth. I would join local mommy groups on FB and get recommendations on a midwife in your area. I personally deliver at a birthing center and the medical claims are billed through the collaborating OB so my last birth and current pregnancy are covered just like a OB.

Oh and the only other thing I would suggest is if you have never had a natural birth definitely take some sort of natural birthing class like the Bradley method or hypnobabies to learn how to manage the labor
