Are any of your SO “close” with their ex wife?

I feel like my fiancé and his ex wife (and mother to his son) have a weird relationship and I’m not too sure how to feel about it. I’d rather their relationship strictly be about co parenting, but they are soooo buddy buddy. 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️ probably over reacting. Eh.

Google The Smart Stepfamily. Also you’d have to define close. They share a child. They need to communicate and coparent. That’s great that they get along. Would you rather they be at odds or fighting? None of that would be profitable to you. If you’ve been around for 1 year and they’re not including you in events that’s inappropriate. If you have 0 say in what happens in your home, that’s inappropriate. If they’re physically or emotionally inappropriate RUN. But if they have a friendship you’re going to have to get used to it. Being stepparent isn’t for everyone.

Well what’s weird about it exactly? I would be alarmed if my husband wasn’t friendly with someone he had a child with. It sets a good example for children.

My grandma and grandpa maintained a close relationship after their divorce. They were close with each other's siblings, and my grandpa always used to come over for to my grandma's Christmas and Thanksgiving, and he would bring my step-grandma. It wasn't awkward or confusing, that's just what modern families look like

Putting myself in the girlfriend/fiancé shoes, yeah. I can see it bothering me just because my insecurities would get to me. But for this very reason I wouldn’t be able to be with a man with children because the reasonable side of me knows that the best thing for a child is to see their parents united. To be with a man with children you have to be a very secure and selfless person. It’s not easy. The children will always come first. I’ve been with my husband 14 years and were best friends for a few years before that so we always talk about this scenario. We have a great relationship and have no plans of separating, but should it ever happen, I told him he better get a very open minded girlfriend because I will always be there lol he’s my best friend and we have two boys together. They WILL see their parents getting along and still giving them a sense of security. So I think it’s great your fiancé gets along with his ex so well as much as I know it must suck for you.

That's great for their child. staying friends with your ex shows the child that there's still loads of respect and caring for one another, they just didn't work out for each other. As long as it's just like a normal friendship, I wouldn't worry about it. You may end up becoming friends with her as well

My ex and I are pretty friendly most days. We spent 10 years together and we were always friends first. We coparent our kids and talk about stuff all the time.
Honestly, I think it’s for the best. He can be an ass sometimes, but working together for our children is never wrong. Better friends than enemies.
