No, they’re safest rear facing until AT LEAST age 2. In most states it’s illegal to forward face before 24 months. 
Sadly, even despite these facts, I see many moms forward face their one year old 😔

children rearward facing are 70% more likely to survive in an accident. ill be forward facing my baby when my 3rd is out of her capsule. im due October so my 2nd will be over 2 when it happens. then my 2nd will go into a bigger forward facing seat and the 3rd into her old seat

Our little girl is almost 13 months. As soon as she hits 22 pounds we will forward face. We have done extensive research on the pros of extended rear facing however we have a serious back seat screamer on our hands and driving with her in the car causes major distractions to the driver making it very unsafe. Assuming we switch her and nothing changes we will continue to rear face however I think it's going to make a world of a difference.

I forward face because my daughter is very big for her age and always has been. It's legal where I am, her Dr says it's fine, and she screams like a banshee when rear facing. I believe for my child it's better to forward face. If she's screaming the whole time I can't safely concentrate on the Rd and that's not safe for anyone. So for my situation we do what we have to. Judge me if you want to. It's what is right for us.
