Second prenatal appointment?!

I had my first prenatal appointment On January 29 and my second is coming up February 26 which is Monday! What all happens at the second appointment?

Answer

It depends on how many weeks you are at the appointment and what your OB offers. If you are still in the first trimester they may do an ultrasound if one wasn’t done at your last appointment. If they took blood last time they will more than likely go over the results (blood type, any STDs, anemic) and will do the same if you had a Pap as well. At my clinic the first appointment isn’t until 12 weeks so that’s when they do a pap, bloods, and ultrasound. Then at my second appointment and every following appointment they will use the Doppler to find the heartbeat, take my weight and answer any questions I have. They will also tell me what tests or labs I need done before my next appointment. Your doc might do more or less but that’s what I’ve experienced with both of my pregnancies.

They just let me listen to the baby's heartbeat and that was it.

Mine was super simple! I just chatted with my midwife for a few minutes and she gave me a run down of how the appointments will be scheduled from there on out, then we listened to the heart beat with a Doppler. I asked her a couple questions, but I’d say it was literally a quick 15-20 min appointment!
