Birth rate?!

So I've heard that so called "Christian"countries have a negative birth rate. So do you think it's selfish of people not to have more children? Oh and this is just something this girl at school was saying( I don't wish to offend anyone).

Living your life for yourself is far from selfish. Having children you never wanted to please your religion, family or society is selfish.

I think it is selfish for people to have kids, period. Having 1 or 2 makes sense because you are replacing yourself and your partner, but any more than 2 is really selfish. At that point you are no longer having children to continue your line or your family name. In our country we have good medical care so we no longer need to have ten children and hope the two of them live. Our planet is terribly overpopulated and it gets worse everyday. People need to start thinking about the planet and the future instead of how cute it will be to have 5 kids.

I think its cultural, not selfish or anything else. We are told families with more than two or three children are weird or religious fanatics or whatever. Honestly, I don't think it has anything to do with religion or Christianity. Think about how many people will check the box next to Christan or Catholic on a census survey, but never go to church/mass or do anything to practice their said religion. It has to do with cultural norms more so than religion. Personally, I want to have a large family, but it has nothing to do with the fact that I'm a Christian. I am an only child and I always hated being an only child. My dad is the middle of 5 brothers and I love seeing him interact with all his brothers and how crazy family gatherings are with all my cousins and having people everywhere and there always being someone to talk to. That's the environment i would like my children to grow up in. We plan/hope to both have children and adopt.
