Cold sores

I went to the doctors the other week and they told me that I tested positives for oral herpes (fever blisters and cold sores) I've never had an outbreak though. I told my boyfriend and at fist he was okay with it and we kissed without worrying about it for a week... Now this week he says he doesn't want to anymore because he is afraid of getting it too. I'm just so confused because i understand he is worried about it but at the same time what's a relationship without any kissing? We've been together a year and I've never given anything to him... I know I can't force him to do anything an I don't want him to feel uncomfortable but is there any advice on talking to him about it? Is there any advice on having a relationship while living with this?
