Has anyone done step parent adoption?

My husband and I are looking into having my sons biological fathers right terminated (already paid the lawyers and theyve started the petition) and then having my husband adopt my son.

Has anyone else done this, if so what was the process like and how long did it take?

(my son doesn't know his biological father because he walked out on us when my son was a year old, so my husband is the only father he's ever actually known... Also the biological father won't sign away rights, even thought he hasn't seen him in YEARS he'll drag it out just to make my life hell.)
