“Cedar” as a name for a boy?

Julie

So my husband and I are both in love with the name, “Cedar,” for our little baby boy. Yesterday my sister told me it was a girl’s name, and she was afraid the child would get teased. She strongly disapproved of the name. Traditional names run in my family, so I was expecting some raised eyebrows....but not this kind of objection! After doing some searching online, I found that it is also used for girls. So now I’m really worried. My husband and I have both visited and lived in the Mediterranean, so we are well acquainted with the old, rugged, and strong Cedar trees. Anyways...The name to me seems masculine, but maybe I am completely wrong? Please let me know what you think. Also, we plan on having it on paper as a middle name (Daniel Cedar), but calling him Cedar. When he starts going to school he can choose to go by Daniel if he wants.

Update: Thank you so much everyone for the positive responses!!!! We are going to go with Cedar as we planned, and I’m super happy about it!!!!
