How do you start using the pill?

GUYS HELLO.
First of all I live in Turkey so I was not sure whether Yasmin is an international birth control pill or not so I added a wikipedia thingy too. Anyways. my questions :
I want to use birth control pill. We use condom with my boyfriend but still...
But I didn’t go to a doctor I just went to the pharmacy and bought Yasmin. Some of my friends use it too and they are happy with it.
I read the instructions but still I wanted to be sure.
Should I start taking it on the first day of my period?
When should I give it a break and then start taking again?
Have you used it? If so, any side effects you’ve experienced?
Any info is appreciated. I don’t know why I am stressed about it but I am. Thank you for your answers in advance!

Mine is like this one. Just read the pamphlet! Start taking it the first day of your period. You'll take one pill per day until you've taken all 21 pills. Then you'll have 7 days where you're not taking a pill. On the 8th day (which should be the same day you started the first pack; mine is always Thursday) you start taking a new pack. You can skip the 7 day break and skip your withdrawal bleed if you want but shouldn't do that for too many months in a row

i am not familiar with this type of pill, with the way it’s set up and with the amount that’s in it.. but i do know you should start it the sunday after your period starts!

You can get birth control OTC over there? Huh, that’s interesting. Just curious, is it only Yasmin you can get OTC or are there others? 
So, Yasmin is a combination oral contraceptive (COC) meaning it has both estrogen and progestin. Being a COC versus a progestin only pill (POP) means that is more forgiving in regards to what time of day you take it. With POP’s you gotta take them at the SAME TIME everyday (give or take an hour), otherwise your risk of pregnancy increases. With a COC like Yasmin you still want to shoot for around the same time each day, but it’s more forgiving if you don’t. You should pick a time you remember and stick with it!
In regards to start-day, when you start determines how many days after you need to use a back-up method. If you start on the Sunday following the onset of your period, use a back-up method for 7 days.  If you start on the first day of your period (or within 5 days after it starts), no back-up method is needed. Either way works though!!
Some things to note. Yasmin contains drospirenone, a potassium-sparing diuretic. This is great because it helps decrease bloating, PMS symptoms, and weight gain. On the flip side, being a potassium-sparing diuretic means that it could increase your potassium levels. Use caution if you are taking supplements that contain potassium, ACE inhibitors, ARBs, etc. You should avoid taking Yasmin if you have kidney disease or a history of clotting.
