Anyone’s little one not pointing?

Question

My son turned one on the 13th and his pediatrician told me that because he’s not pointing, that’s a sign of autism, which I think sounds silly. 
Anyone else?

I would not put much weight into that doc, and would even look for a new one. It's one thing for his doc to let you know to keep an eye for certain behaviors, and if you have any concerns to offer more testing.... But I have 2 boys, and neither were pointing by age 1, AND it is usually at this age they started being shy and crying around new people, like scared you're going to leave them. I remember I had concerns with my 1st son at 18 months because he was very very very quiet, was so serious and didn't smile much around people (around me he was loud, etc) But his doc let me know we could do an evaluation when he turned 2 if I was still concerned, but the main thing she looked for was if he made eye contact - which he did fine. So, not to go into the whole story, if YOU have concerns, then pursue it, but based off of what the doc said, I would be 2nd guessing everything he said..

That is a little...strange...to be “diagnosing” autism based on one factor. I say “diagnosing” because the official diagnosis requires extensive testing by a specialist. Are there other things that make you/your doctor suspicious of autism?

My son doesn’t point with a finger, but has begun holding his hand out for things.  My pediatrician said it is fine, and will ask again during his next appointment in 3 months.

My baby turned 1 yesterday & best friend's baby is 13mo, & neither of them are pointing yet. My son is super social & smiley 🤷🏼 I'm not concerned.

Mine is one and isn’t talking, not pointing etc. they did give me a pamphlet on autism because early intervention is key- but I asked for it. Our dr said she isn’t concerned, at his 15 month check up she will reevaluate but she says he seems fine. 
I asked for it, Because I have an older son who is on the spectrum. And I can tell you they are very different. My older son was early on everything. Extremely shy etc. 
if your worried look into it, but based on the symptoms you said that’s not nearly enough to jump to that.
